The Hotel Flamingo should be on the list of a traveler’s destination to appreciate neighborhood hospitability.
The first time I stayed at the Flamingo Hotel I remember walking down a narrow weather-beaten road in old town area of Arusha. The large numbers of shops and the countless people intermingling with each other, chatting and laughing in a language unknown to my ears prepared me for the adventures I imagined.
The outside of the hotel is unadorned with thoughtful taste, stepping inside I noticed it was similar with a genuine friendliness.
Across from the receptions desk is a comfortable sitting room available for quests to relax, soda, coffee or tea is available on request, read the newspapers, watch TV or check out the different brochures describing local programs and activities to visit while taking a break from their scheduled events. The dining room is located in separate building close to the reception and sitting room, food is bought fresh daily and prepared by order.
Guided to my room by the attendant we climbed the rounded stairway to the 3rd floor.
I noticed the hotel still held the charm of years ago and my room shared the same characteristics; blossoms capturing the winds. The sight filled me up with excitement and awe. I felt comfortable with my surroundings and knew I had made the right choice to spend my evenings at the Flamingo. I was ready to venture out and discover the neighborhood.
Returning to my room after a long day of exploring my surroundings I decided to take a snooze. I flopped my body onto the bed, smothered my face into the pillow and wrapped myself up with the comforter never expecting to feel such pleasure from a bed.
Now, I must say, resting my body on the mattress, sinking my head into the pillow and feeling the softness of comforter made my stay at the Flamingo a travelers dream.
The Hotel Flamingo is unpretentious, has the comforts of home set in the perfect location for traveler’s to begin and finish off their journey of the unknown.
