MR. ANTHONY J. CAPUTO

 

Tony is the legal advisor to Winds of Africa, Inc, a California non-profit corporation and Winds of Africa Foundation in Arusha, Tanzania, East Africa. He is a resident of Tanzania and resides in Arusha during his visits. In both countries he is significantly involved in all aspects of the organization and its projects.

Tony currently practices law in San Diego, California with an emphasizing on civil and business law including litigation. He began his career in law working with the San Diego City Attorney’s Office, in 1969.

Tony has over 35 years experience in general civil and business litigation, including complex litigation, state-wide class-action litigation, sexual and age discrimination cases, personal injury cases, real estate matters including development, contract and title issues and general business transaction; 

Clients include hotel management companies; construction companies; small businesses; non-profit associations and organizations including homeowner associations.

Past President of Mission Beach Town Council, 1981-1984, Arbitrator and Mediator Panels, San Diego Superior Court, 1985 to present.

MS AUDREY DIMAMBRO-CAPUTO

Audra is a Founder and Director of Wind of Africa, Inc in California and Winds of Africa Foundation in Arusha, Tanzania, East Africa. She is a resident of Tanzania and resided in Arusha during her stay.  

Her career in the United States is working in Mental Health with children, adolescent and adults. She has held supervisory positions at Changing Options Adult Mental Health Facility, Hambleceya Adult Mental Health, New Haven Group Homes for Adolescents in San Diego County, California and the Encinitas Community Resource Center/ Libre’ Domestic Violence Shelter in North County, California.

She has formed and managed programs such as Self Esteem Coordinator and Life Skills Instructor and utilized creative ideas to shape and implement their progress.

When she resides at home in San Diego she continues to work at the San Diego County Psychiatric Hospital under a medical registry.

Audra worked in Zimbabwe, Africa in January 1996 for one year with a volunteer program. She selected to work with Save Our Soul Children’s Orphanage assisting the principle and teachers at the kindergarten and primary school. Her experience in Zimbabwe was exceptionally rewarding. Her desire to continue volunteering in Africa brought her to Moshi, Tanzania in 2001. She has assisted a number of school programs, street children programs and orphanages and continues to devote her attention to the Engikaret Maasai Primary School and Village, Arusha Region and Bomang’ombe Vocational Training Center, Mount Kilimanjaro Region.

Her ambition is to encourage change for the better in education and health and to be a witness in progress.

Audra’s favorite pastimes are surfing, skiing, hiking, painting and writing and travel.

MRS JILL LESTER

 

Jill Lester is currently back in college in San Diego, California, USA, pursuing a teachers  credential after raising three children who now are either in college or have completed college.  While being a mother she for some 15 years did the bookkeeping handling accounts receivable, payable, and sales commissions as well as dealing with clients for a large Phoenix financial firm dealing in insurance and securities.  She has both a securities and insurance license enabling her to handle both types of accounts.  Her primary skill and experience that will benefit Winds of Africa is her additional background in charity fund raising with which she has been involved in for years primarily helping raise money for schools.  Jill, who now resides in San Diego, California, has travel extensively including to Tanzania where she visited the Engikaret Maasai school and village, the Marangu Teachers Resource Center, and BVTC.  She is a respected and valued Board Member.

CHARLES W. GIACOMINI

 

Living in San Diego he is an experienced Hotel Operator who is a co-owner of Hotel Managers Group which operates several Hilton Hotels, Crown Plaza Hotels, Best Western Hotels, as well as several independant Hotels.  He is or has been on the board of directors of National and State Hospitality Associatons as well as the San Diego Hotel and Motel Association as well as the San Diego Convention Center.  He has taught courses in Hotel Operations and Management for Community Colleges as well as being a Lecturer at seminars and other travel and hospitality gatherings.

MR IAN MAMUYA

Ian is a Founder and Director to Winds of Africa Foundation in Arusha, Tanzania, East Africa.

He has worked in the community development field in Tanzania management issues for an extensive period. He lectured at the Institute of Development Studies, University of Dar-es-salaam for several years, before going on to work in community development. He is Director of the Marangu Community Development Association (MACDA) in the northeastern Kilimanjaro region, a voluntary organization set up by members of the community. MACDA implements programs in primary and vocational education, health, environment, and promotion of small business. Mr. Mamuya has worked in consultancy capacity with various organizations, including the Dar-es-salaam City Council (urban tourism project), the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania (health insurance scheme), the Tanzania Outward Bound School (re-structuring program), and is founder Trustee of the Friends of Mt. Kilimanjaro Foundation. Mamuya is also member of the Board of the Marangu Hospital, the Board of Mengeni Teachers’ Resource Centre, and member of the Health Advisory Committee of the Northern Diocese.

DR. SIFUEL MAMUYA

 

Dr. Sifuel has extensive experience in issues of health and education in Tanzania, having worked as a general physician in the national referral hospital, Muhimbili Hospital, Dar-es-salaam, for several years, and been appointed to several posts, including being National Director of Health Education in the Ministry of Health,  honorary tutor in health education in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Dar-es-salaam, National chairman of TB Association of Tanzania, and member of the National Advisory Committee on Education. Dr. Mamuya left civil service to set up the the Family Planning Association of Tanzania, of which he was first chairman for 6 years, vice-chairman for a further 20 years, and member of the Executive Council member for another 10 years until his retirement in 2002, during which he also was one of the founder members of the Africa Regional Council of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (based in Nairobi, Kenya). Dr. Mamuya still works with the national Association and the Africa Regional Council of the IPPF in a voluntary capacity as honorary consultant.  He also was also a founder member of EMAU, an national organization dedicated to providing life education and counseling for youth.

He is currently a member on several boards, including the governing Council of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Northern Diocese (Kilimanjaro region), and is advisor to the health programs of the Diocese. He has published several books dealing with sex education, youth counseling, family planning, and HIV awareness.

 

MR FRANCIS JOSEPH KIMBWERE

 

Francis is currently the Managing Director of Brithol Michcoma Co. (T) Ltd., and affiliate of Brithol Michcoma International Limited.  Francis established Brithol Michcoma in Tanzania way back in 1989 as a liaison office and has through the years managed to put the Company in its present status as a fully incorporated company.

Prior to his engagement with Brithol Michcoma, he worked at the University of Dar es Salaam as Senior Administrative Officer responsible for the budgeting and financial control matters (1982-1985); national Printing company Limited as Planning Officer-cum-Internal Auditor (1981-1982); Bank of Tanzania, Exchange Control Department as Bank official responsible for processing applications from commercial banks related to exchange control matters (1976-19780). 

He also worked briefly with the Finance Department of the university ofr Bath, United Kingdom in 1987.  

Francis is involved in several community development projects. He is a founder member of Kilema Development Trust Fund. Under his leadership as Secretary General, the fund managed to do some activities which have substantially helped the Kilema Ward residents. He is now one of the Trustees of the Fund.   

Francis is a member of the Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam North, he has been twice its chairman and secretary respectively.

He belongs to the first group of members of Africa leadership Initiative (an ASPEN Institute Child).

Charles currently is the owner of Blue Point Services in Moshi, Tanzania. He is a successful business man in Moshi and respected in the community for his business and family ethics. 

He graduated in Business Administration in 1974 and began working with SIDO in 1975. In 1976 he attended an Industrial Development Course in the Mexico at the Third World Institute. He resigned from SIDO in 1982 to pursue his own business

He is the Chairman of Big Family.

He is an early morning runner.

MR SAJJAD OMAR

 

Sajjad currently is the owner of Fahari Internet Cafe in Moshi, Tanzania. His educational background is in Computer Literacy (i.e. Consulting in Graphic and Website design) and Business Management.

He is involved in numerous community development programs in the surrounding areas in Moshi. His skills allow him to be innovative and creative in designing various promotional materials.

Sajjad is respected and well known in the community as being a person that is easily approached for support. He is a consultant and designer for various organizations in Tanzania and abroad.

He likes to spend his spare time socializing with friends and family.

MS WENDY SPIVEY

 

Wendy is an Australian, although she says her heart is African, she is a jewelry designer and runs 'My African Heart' bijoux business from her current base in Dakar, Senegal.....

Wendy runs a mentoring programme with several young people passing on business skills and assisting with honing the quality aspect of their various gifts.

She is also on the  committee for the Dakar Womens Group a group of English speaking women committed to helping African Women through charitable projects.

Wendy spent many years living in Tanzania, running a large Safari company and her love for the children of Africa is formost in her mind. Wendy is also a mother to three wonderful children, Madeleine, Fraser and Anthea who share her love and compassion for her adopted
home.

HERMAN ALFAYO KISSILA

He has keen knowledge and appreciation of Tanzania, has worked as a Tour Guide and Driver for over 18 years and is highly regarded with numerous Tour and Safari Companies as a trustworthy dependable person. He has worked for four reputable Tours-Safari Companies based in Arusha. In 2005 he moved forward establishing himself as a Private Tour Contractor.  

He has a welcoming personality, strong sense of the land and skilled in organizing tours suitable for the client’s needs and specializes in tailor made tours safaris.
